Internet connection checklist

• Turn off all unnecessary services
• Use firewalling to block access to services if possible
• Use TCP_WRAPPERS to restrict access to services
• Run nmap and nessus against the host minimally
• SSL wrap services such as POP and IMAP
• Use SSH instead of Telnet
• Ensure software is up to date
